News Bureau news releases (1952-1965), in paper form, concern NLC activities and job placement announcements, NLC resolutions, Lutheran church leaders and NLC staff obituaries, NLC participating church body conventions, financial campaign news, Lutheran World Action and Lutheran World Relief activities and assemblies, overseas needs and relief in specific countries, Lutheran anniversary and event celebrations, visits of foreign Lutheran church leaders, and U.S. government actions and legislation of concern. News releases were sent to Lutheran periodicals, foreign publications, non- Lutheran Protestant journals, and religious editors for daily newspapers, news magazines, wire services, publicity centers, and radio stations. News Bureau secretaries included. O.H. Pannkoke (1919-1920), Howard R. Gold (1921-1923), W.P. Elson (1924-1933, 1943-1945), Charles Fegley (1933-1937), Osborne Hauge (1937-1943), Louis Schenk (1946-1947), and Erik Modean (1948-1966). A microfilm version of the news releases contains releases from 1920-1966 (see OCLC #36206224).

The Lutheran Bureau was formed in 1917 under the direction of O.H. Pannkoke. In 1919, it came under the auspices of the newly formed National Lutheran Council where it served to gather and disseminate NLC and Lutheran church related news through news releases to Lutheran and secular papers.
